1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a doughnut pan with a non stick spray.
2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, sugar and cocoa powder. (if you don’t have a sifter, use a whisk)
3. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, buttermilk, oil, vanilla, red food coloring and vinegar.
4. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir them all together until just combined. Be careful not to over mix. Batter will be very thick.
5. Using a piping bag or a ziploc bag with the corner cut off, pipe the batter into the doughnut pan. Fill only halfway.
6. Bake for 10-12 minutes for large doughnuts and 5-7 minutes for small doughnuts. Cool completely before frosting.
1. In a stand mixer or hand held mixer, mix the cream cheese and butter together on medium-high for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.
2. Add 1 cup of powdered sugar at a time and mix completely after each addition. Add the vanilla and salt, mix again until combine. Add more powdered sugar if you would like it sweeter or thicker. For a thinner frosting, add a little heavy cream.
3. Using a piping bag or spoon, drizzle the frosting over the doughnuts. Enjoy!
