Cinnamon Sugar Baked Donuts

I mean, these pretty much speak for themselves. Look at that crunchy cinnamon sugary topping. Covering a moist, buttermilky, buttery donut. These deserve all the adjectives because they are just comfort in a dessert.

They are baked which means they are healthy, right? Okay, healthy-ish. They are easy, which gives them a big thumbs up in my book. And they are delicious and that’s really the major goal with desserts.

These would be great for a quick go and grab breakfast or an after school snack with a big ‘ol glass of milk. Super easy, give them a go and impress the family.

Gotta add these to your list of treats to bake! Follow me over on Facebook and Instagram @lolosdesserts. Be sure to snap a pic if you make a Lolo’s recipe and tag it with #lolosdesserts. I love to see what you are making!

Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

2 large eggs, room temperature

⅔ cup light brown sugar, packed

1 cup buttermilk, stirred to loosen

4 Tablespoons butter, melted

3 teaspoons vanilla

For Topping

1 cup sugar

1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, ore more if desired

½ cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon together.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, brown sugar, and buttermilk together until smooth. Add melted butter and vanilla, mix until combined.
  4. Pour wet ingredients over the flour mixture and mix until just combined. Careful not over mix.
  5. Spoon batter directly into donut pan holes, about 3/4 full. Bake for 8-9 minutes or until edges of donuts are golden brown.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool in pan for 3 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack and bake remaining batter.
  7. For topping, mix cinnamon and sugar together in a shallow bowl. Brush all sides and center of donut with melted butter and dunk the donut in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Turn donut over and cover opposite side.

  1. Halved it, used the full amount of cinnamon and about 1/4 t nutmeg and they were awesome. Easy to modify for food allergies
