I like to think Rudolph would be proud of these reindeer sugar cookies with pretzel antlers. I mean, who wouldn’t love a cookie in your honor?! However, he may be upset at how very little time these actually take. It’s by far the easiest “baking” I did this weekend.
But the main thing is that Leah absolutely loved putting them together. It was messy and made me cringe a few times at the placement of antlers or eyes, but overall these turned out super cute. If you’re looking for Christmas desserts for kids to make themselves, these easy and cute Christmas cookies are it.
I’ll let you in on a little secret….I used premade sugar cookie dough for these reindeer cookies! Shhhh, you can’t tell anyone. Here’s the deal, when you are just in it for the cute decorations then go with the shortcuts whenever you can. They will look adorable, will still taste delicious and you’ll get time back. Wins all around.
I loved making these. They are a great kitchen activity to do with kiddos or anyone for that matter. Add them to your baking list this year!
It almost feels silly calling this a recipe, because it’s really more of an edible art project. Very little actual baking went into these. Which is exactly why this is perhaps the best easy Christmas cookie recipe. Fun for everyone, less kitchen clean-up for the grown-ups!
All you need to make these cookies are:
Yup, that’s it. You don’t even have to turn your oven on if you don’t want to! Can we still call this a recipe??
Simply use a bit of frosting to attach all of the different pieces of the reindeer sugar cookies and you’re ready for your next holiday party, school bake sale or a night around the Christmas tree. Put Rudolph on the TV and you’re good to go!
While I fully support going store-bought for these cute and easy Christmas cookies, if you wanted to make these a bigger project you could definitely make your own. I love this sugar cookie recipe and it would work great for this project.
The only downside to homemade sugar cookies for this recipe? It can be hard to make those perfectly round reindeer faces! So, how do you keep cookies round when baking? There are a few ways to do this.
Option A: Use sugar cookie dough in a tube. I know, I know. It’s not homemade. But hey, you’re baking it! And when you slice that round dough and bake it you’re almost guaranteed to get perfect circles.
Option B: Use a cookie cutter or large glass to shape them while still warm. Place a large, round cookie cutter around each cookie on the baking sheet while the cookies are still warm. Move it around the edge of each cookie to mold it into a perfect cookie.
Option C is in the full recipe below, and it can be used for pre-made or freshly baked cookies!

Hi Laura, this is a stupid question, I don’t understand about making the size after they are baked? Don’t you bake them after the size is made
Not stupid at all! It’s just a weird tip to be able to get your sugar cookies into perfect circles if they spread or are slightly oval. So if you take a glass and place the open end around the cookie after they are out of the oven and still warm, then you can cut off the excess and make a perfect circle. Which is great for these cookies. Premade sugar cookie dough is better at staying in perfect circles so you may not need to do it. Let me know if that makes any sense! 🙂
