This Berries and Cream Baked French Toast is a breakfast to make when you really love the people you’re cooking for. It’s packed with creamy textures, berry flavors and then baked within a custard mixture. Oh wait, there’s more…topped with brown sugar AND a cream cheese drizzle. This is love in a breakfast.

Can I make this ahead of time?

You sure can! The custard mixture does best when it’s left to soak into the french bread. So you can make this one the night before and let sit overnight and bake in the morning.

Do I have to use French Bread?

I don’t want to tell you what to do…but I would. I tried this recipe with regular sandwich bread and while it was delicious, it was still a bit soggy. So the sturdier or a bread you can use, the better. I found that a french bread baguette works fabulously.

Ingredients

2 (8-10 inch) French Bread Baguette

Hiland Dairy Cream Cheese (8 oz)

1 cup powdered sugar

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 cup strawberries, sliced

1 cup blueberries

1 cup raspberries

6 large eggs

1 cup Hiland Dairy Whole Milk

½ cup Hiland Dairy Heavy Cream

4 teaspoons cinnamon (divided)

1 cup brown sugar, divided

Cream Cheese Drizzle

4 oz Hiland Dairy Cream Cheese

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

3 Tablespoons Hiland Dairy heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.

  2. Cut the French baguettes into 1 inch slices, but do not cut all the way through the bread. Place the baguettes in the baking dish.

  3. In a medium bowl, mix the Hiland Cream Cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add all the berries and fold them into the cream cheese mixture.

  4. Use a spoon or spatula to spread the cream cheese/berry mixture in between the slices of the french bread. Be generous with the mixture in between the slices.

  5. In another mixing bowl, add the eggs, Hiland Milk, heavy cream, 3 teaspoons cinnamon and ½ cup brown sugar. Whisk until all combined.

  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and into the baking dish. Allow to sit for 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.

  7. In a small bowl, mix the remaining ½ cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together and sprinkle all over the top of the bread and egg mixture.

  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes.

  9. After 15 minutes, remove the foil and continue to bake for 30 minutes.

  10. While baking, make the cream cheese drizzle. In a small bowl, whisk together Hiland cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and Hiland heavy cream.

  1. Remove the French Toast from the oven and let rest for another 10 minutes to set completely.

  2. Drizzle the cream cheese drizzle over the top and then serve! Add maple syrup, whipped cream, and more berries if you like.
