These cookies are my new obsession, and they are perfect for a fun and easy Valentine’s Day treat. I found this recipe over at I Heart Naptime and had to give them a try. They are so chewy in the middle and crispy on the outside. And how pretty are these Valentine’s Day M&Ms? Bonus is that they are easy and this recipe makes a lot of cookies.

I made these the other morning and Leah decided she wanted to help out. I scooted a chair over and she lit up as she watched the mixer going. It stopped and her little hand immediately reached for the dough. The girl got her mama’s sweet tooth. I can’t wait for her to get a little older and able to help with the baking. Although, I’m going to need to put my clean kitchen goals aside because my guess is Leah will not be nice and neat. The girl is a tornado.

I was super messy growing up but for some reason when I hit my 30s, I became slightly ocd on weird things. Not that I am neat and tidy, far from it but I am much more annoyed by messes than I was when I was younger. I have no idea what happened, my mom is also very confused. I remember very clearly her saying to me at age 11- “I can tell exactly where you’ve been because you leave a trail of stuff everywhere you go around the house.” And now, I have said those same words out loud about both my husband and daughter. My mom is laughing at the karma of life.

So to sum up- these cookies are awesome, I used to be messy (I’m still a hot mess though) and karma is funny. Seriously though, try these out and let me know what you think!

Ingredients

1 cup salted butter, melted
2 cup sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 large eggs
1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup M&M’s

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper and set aside.
2. In a stand mixer, mix the butter, sugar and oil for about 1 minute on medium speed. Add the cocoa and vanilla and mix together. Then add in the egg and mix until combined.
3. Add the flour and baking powder and mix with a wooden spoon/spatula until smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips and the M&M’s (save a few to add on top).
4. Using a cookie scoop, scoop out the dough and place onto the baking pan. Press a few M&M’s on top of each cookie to make them pretty. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly crisp and the middles are still soft.
5. Allow cookies to cool on the pan for a few minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack.
