Looking for a delicious and easy Christmas cocktail to add to your holiday menu? This Gingerbread Eggnog Cocktail recipe is the best way to make spirits bright.

When I think of eggnog, I think of my husband. He loves eggnog. He will literally start asking if they have it in the stores yet before Thanksgiving is even here. Every year around this time, we break out our Christmas Vacation moose mugs and pour ourselves a little rum and eggnog and then watch the actual Christmas Vacation. I love this tradition.

This year, I thought I would change it up a bit and try out a doctored-up eggnog recipe. And it. is. yummmmy. It tastes like eggnog and a gingerbread cookie combined, but better. Plus it just makes you feel all warm inside and your to-do list starts to not look so intimidating. Winning all around.

Are you guys eggnog fans? If so, then you’re going to want to try this delicious eggnog cocktail – or come up with your own variation!

What alcohol mixes well with eggnog?

This is such a tough question to answer because, honestly, it’s hard to go wrong when it comes to mixing eggnog with alcohol. Rum and bourbon are both favorites for adding to eggnog, but I wanted to switch things up a bit for this gingerbread eggnog cocktail recipe so I decided to try a combination of eggnog, vodka and Kahlúa.

Eggnog with Vodka

Eggnog with vodka is delicious on its own. This could be a wonderful cocktail for the holidays even if you didn’t add anything else to it. In this cocktail recipe I just use plain vodka, but I also love the idea of trying salted caramel vodka or another sweet flavor like that.

Eggnog with Kahlúa

Kahlúa eggnog cocktails are not as common as something like eggnog with bourbon or rum, but I’m really not sure why because this combination is delicious! Kahlúa tastes like the perfect mix of coffee, vanilla and caramel and all of the flavors go so well with eggnog – especially in this gingerbread eggnog cocktail!

Gingerbread Eggnog Cocktail Ingredients

One of the best things about this gingerbread eggnog recipe is that it’s so dang easy to make. You literally just need your favorite store bought eggnog, some liquor and spices.

Eggnog

I use store-bought eggnog for this recipe because, really, who has the time to be making it from scratch during the busy holiday season? Of course, if you like to make homemade eggnog that will absolutely work too!

Vodka

Vodka is part of what makes this a cocktail. It doesn’t add any significant flavor to the drink, so it really lets the gingerbread shine.

Kahlúa

Kahlúa is the other type of alcohol in this cocktail. It adds a really sweet, dark flavor that helps this taste like gingerbread.

Cinnamon Sugar

A gingerbread cocktail needs a cinnamon-sugar rim, right?! I think so! That’s exactly what you’ll use this for. You can buy pre-made cinnamon sugar or make your own at home.

Ground Ginger

We can’t have gingerbread without ground ginger! You could also try gingerbread spice, which you can usually find easily around the holidays.

Molasses

Molasses had some deep, dark sweetness to this cocktail and really adds to the gingerbread flavor!

How to Make a Gingerbread Eggnog Drink

You can whip up this eggnog cocktail in as little as 5 minutes! All you need is a cocktail shaker and four glasses.

Step One: Wet the rims of four cocktail glasses and dip in cinnamon sugar to coat.

Step Two: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice then add eggnog, vodka, Kahlúa, molasses, and ginger and shake to combine.

Step Three: Pour into the glasses and top with whipped cream and a drizzle of molasses.

Step Four: Drink and be merry!

Ways to Garnish a Gingerbread Eggnog Cocktail

I like to top my gingerbread eggnog with whipped cream and molasses, but there are so many festive ways you could finish off this cocktail.

  • Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar or gingerbread spice on top of the whipped cream or right on top of the cocktail itself.
  • Crumble up some gingerbread cookies and sprinkle them on top of the whipped cream.
  • Add white chocolate shavings to the top of the whipped cream.
  • Use cinnamon whipped cream for an extra dose of sweet and spice.

Other Eggnog Cocktail Ideas to Try

Feeling inspired by this gingerbread eggnog cocktail? Make up your own holiday eggnog drinks by changing up the spirits and the spices you add. Some of my favorite ideas include:

Pumpkin Eggnog: Use store bought pumpkin eggnog or blend regular eggnog with pumpkin puree, then add pumpkin pie spice and salted caramel vodka or maple bourbon.

Fireball Eggnog: Combine the flavors of eggnog and cinnamon by adding Fireball cinnamon liquor to eggnog and topping with whipped cream.

Eggnog Martini: If you’re a martini fan this holiday twist is delicious! Combine eggnog, vanilla vodka and amaretto, pour into a martini glass and garnish with a cinnamon stick.

Spiked Eggnog Milkshake: The only thing better than spiked eggnog is a spiked eggnog milkshake. Blend eggnog, vanilla ice cream and your favorite liquor to create a delicious dessert drink!
